Leadership training of women and youth former and potential representatives in Punjab

Closing Ceremony the Project“Strengthening of Local Government Systems as Catalyst for Improved Services Delivery in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa”. The overall goal of the project was to create research-based evidence, build capacities and facilitate stakeholders’ participation for safe, effective and accountable delivery of municipal services by local governments. The CPDI with support of GIZ implementedfrom Nov 2021 to Oct 2022.The closing ceremony was organized in Luxus Grand Hotel Lahore. The ceremony was chaired by Ms. Maria Tariq, Additional Secretary Development Punjab Local Government Department.Other senior officers of the Local Government Department including Mr. Mahmood Masood Tamana, Director General Complaints and Inquiries, Mr. Sardar Naseer, Director GeneralI&M, Mr. Najeeb Aslam, Director Punjab Local government Academy also attended the ceremony and appreciated the contributions made by the CPDI and GIZ. Mr. Mukhtar Ali Ahmed, Executive Director CPDI, welcomed all the participants and given an overview of CPDI interventions. Mr. Moazzam Ali Janjua Project Manager CPDI, shared the project achievements and way forward.

Project key activities were i.e. Development of ELMS for Local Government Academy Lalamusa, a training manual and trained 250 sanitary workers sewer men on occupational safety procedures, Development of training module on women and youth leadership for local government officials and elected representatives (50 former and potential representatives trained in i.e., Khanewal, Sheikhupura, Toba, Mandi Bahauddin, Khanewal Punjab),a study to understand gaps and challenges and strengthen the capacity of the South Punjab Local Government Secretariat for more effective performance in its functions, especially in terms of more efficient management of staff changes and development of synergies across activities / interventions, a study on opportunities and challenges for digital participation of citizens in local government affairs, and Analysis of Gaps in Policy Formulation Processes with Focus on LGs in the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provinces.
