Pakistan's northern areas to get high speed internet soon

Chitral, Kaghan, and other tourist sites in Pakistan's northern regions will soon get high-speed internet access.

According to Haris Mehmood Chaudhry, CEO of the Universal Service Fund, high-speed internet will be available in Chitral, Kaghan, Naran, and the Neelum Valley within six months.

After a year, high-speed internet will be available in Gwadar, Panjgur, and other regions of Balochistan.

Fiber optic work has also begun in seven tribal districts, with 900 kilometres of fibre optic cable being deployed in Khyber, Kurram, and Mohmand, he added.

Theft of batteries from tower generators in remote locations poses a significant barrier to the work. The solar system, on the other hand, provides the majority of the power to the USF-funded towers.

Syed Amin-ul Haq, the Minister of Information Technology, said on September 24 that connectivity and high-speed internet projects cost Rs31 billion and would be completed soon.

According to the ministry, 5G technology will be available by December 2022. The government was working on a Smart Phone For All programme, which would provide access to such smartphones to 220 million Pakistanis.
