Two suspects admit role in lynching of Sri Lankan worker in Sialkot

In the lynching of a Sri Lankan employee Priyantha Kumara in Sialkot, police have arrested 13 individuals and detained dozens more.

According to media reports, police have arrested two prominent suspects, Farhan Idrees and Talha. Both have confessed to the murders after initial interrogation. A mob of private factory employees had killed Kukmara, who worked as an export manager there.

When the foreign national removed several posters from the factory's machinery, a disagreement arose. According to reports, the posters were imprinted with the name of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Hassan Khawar, a spokesperson for the Punjab administration, said the provincial police head was personally directing the investigation.

Pakistan's political and military leadership, important social and religious groups, and civil society members also denounced the lynching.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the "horrific, vigilante attack" on the factory and the burning alive of the Sri Lankan man "was a day of shame for Pakistan".

"I am overseeing the investigations and, let there be no mistake, all those responsible will be punished with the full severity of the law. Arrests are in progress," he said.
