COVID-19: Pakistan reports first suspected case of Omicron variant in woman

According to the Sindh Health Department, Pakistan reported its first probable case of the Omicron type of coronavirus on Thursday.

According to Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho, the first instance of the variation was recorded in a 57-year-old female patient who was unvaccinated at a private hospital in Karachi.

The patient, on the other hand, has no prior travel history, according to the health department.

The patient is not showing any symptoms of the virus, according to health officials, and has been returned home to isolate.

The Sindh health minister stated that unless a genomic test is performed, it is impossible to say if the patient has the Omicron variant or not.

"We haven't done a genome research yet," she said, "but based on how the virus is acting, it appears to be the Omicron variant."

Despite the fact that the Omicron virus spreads quickly, recent occurrences of infection in South Africa have not resulted in serious diseases or a large number of deaths, she said.

Dr. Pechuho estimated that the genome study would take one to two weeks, after which it would be possible to determine whether the patient had infected the Omicron strain of the coronavirus or not.

"The infection is spreading [quickly]. This lady is likewise unvaccinated, which is why I'm pleading with you all to obtain both vaccine doses "The minister stated.
