According to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, at least one patient has died in the United Kingdom after getting the Omicron strain of coronavirus.
Johnson told reporters, "Unfortunately, at least one patient has now been proven to have died from Omicron."
"So I think we need to put the idea that this is a milder version of the virus to one side and just acknowledge the sheer speed with which it is spreading across the population."
Johnson has tightened restrictions since the first Omicron cases were discovered on Nov. 27 in the United Kingdom, and on Sunday he urged people to get booster vaccinations to keep the health department from becoming overloaded.
