Why is the internet speed slow in Pakistan?

On Tuesday, a failure in the submarine connection slowed internet speeds in Pakistan. According to reports, internet users will have issues at peak hours owing to the South East Asia–Middle East–Western Europe 4 fault (SEA-ME-WE 4).

Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Egypt, Italy, Tunisia, Algeria, and France are all served by the SEA-ME-WE 4.

The underwater cable repair work would be completed in January 2022, according to the reports.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) claimed in a statement that "alternative bandwidth" arrangements had been created.

"Additional bandwidth will be added in the coming days," it said.

Internet services will be "somewhat impacted" during this time, according to the statement.
