The longest night and shortest day of the year happened between December 21 and 22, signalling the commencement of the winter solstice, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

The sun set at 5:48 p.m. on December 21 and rose at 7:12 a.m. today (Wednesday), according to the PMD. As a result, today will be the shortest day of the year.

According to the Met Office, the day on December 21 lasted 10 hours and 22 minutes, while the night lasted 13 hours and 37 minutes.

The beginning of the winter season and the end of the fall season are marked by the shortest day and longest night - the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere.
